Guest HB4 Posted September 16, 2005 Report Posted September 16, 2005 My 1.9 Tdi SE Alhambra is due a 40k service in about 1800 miles time - which is about 2 months away. The check oil indicator has come on today and on checking the dipstick it appears pretty low. It's a while before I can get it to a SEAT garage to service it early so is is wise to top it up? I know I have to get specific oil...silly question, how do I know if my car has a pump injector?? :D Quote
seatkid Posted September 16, 2005 Report Posted September 16, 2005 If your model description is correct then yes you have a PD (unit injector) engine requiring high grade Oil to spec VW 505.01. You should top it up as a matter of urgency. Make sure you dont put too much in though. Quote
Guest HB4 Posted September 16, 2005 Report Posted September 16, 2005 Thanks Kid!! Typical Halfords!!! I go in with the manual and they say 'this is the one you want' handing me VW 502 00 / 503 01 / 505 /00. I say, 'so I don't have a pump injector? Because if I use this one and it's wrong it will damage the engine??!' He appeared to know his stuff!! it's a 52 plate, 115bhp...how can I be 100% sure?? Quote
seatkid Posted September 16, 2005 Report Posted September 16, 2005 All Shalaxy 115bhp diesel engines are PD YOU have a PD engine aka pumpe duese aka pump injector aka unit injector engine. You MUST use a PD spec oil i.e. 505.01 or 506.01 (longlife). VW 502.00 / 503.01 / 505.00 oils are NOT suitable. Quote
Guest HB4 Posted September 17, 2005 Report Posted September 17, 2005 That's great, thanks again! Quote
tim-spam Posted September 19, 2005 Report Posted September 19, 2005 After having bought Castrol TXT 505.01 in France, I emailed Castrol to ask about a UK equivalent and where to buy it, and according to them, Halfords sell Castrol 505.01 oil. However, I have only ever seen Castrol Longlife II 506.01 at Halfords, and that is Quote
Rallim Posted September 19, 2005 Report Posted September 19, 2005 GSF Car Parts sell correct Quantum oil for 24.95 + VAT and postage for 5l I bought this and took it to my local independent garage when I had the car seviced a couple of months ago. I'm sure there are cheaper places, but I thought it wasnt that bad having paid over Quote
